TALKING POINTS :
1- They were already in church. “Thoughts and prayers” aren’t enough. Almost half of those dead are children, young children. Again, “thoughts and prayers” aren’t enough. Do we have to accept that as a nation, we’ve made it clear that guns are a part of the fabric of our culture, allowed (and at times encouraged) in streets, concerts, churches, nightclubs, and schools. We know what we’ll hear: that the NRA controls the GOP, that advancing gun control isn’t politically doable right now, that there aren’t the votes in either house of Congress to do anything. That’s simply not good enough. It never was, and it isn’t good enough now. We have vexing, complicated problems in this nation, but regarding assault and semi-automatic weapons, we have a solution. It’s time (past time) for every Member of Congress to take to the floor of the House and Senate, to the mics at every major news show, and at every event where they’re given a voice and decry the NRA in the harshest terms and demand action on gun control now. Our children are literally dying in their churches and their schools. We CAN do something about this.
2- What are democrats doing? While we meet with our MOCs on Tuesday, voters will be casting votes in several critically vital elections around the country. Democrats threw a big ‘ol stink bomb in the middle of their best chances this year to regain some control of critically important areas around the country. Whether Bernie or Hillary, progressive or liberal, we have to find common voice in our own party. We have to correct the wrongs, clean up our own messes, and we have to work together. What are our four MOCs doing right now to right this ship and put the party on a sustainable path? “A better deal” doesn’t seem to be working. Where is the strategy? What is the plan?
3- Mueller, Trump, Jared, Sessions, and the all the rest. What are our MOCs doing right now to protect the sanctity of the Mueller investigation? The leaks and the apparent ties to Russia are becoming more apparent every day. While Mueller does the work he needs to do, a narrative is building around Trump’s attempt to cast blame on Hillary and push aside the Mueller findings. Yes, of course justice deserves the time and space to take its course, but our MOCs must not be silent in the interim. The Trump machine is making plenty of noise to dodge, deflect, and dismiss. It’s up to us to keep the judicial process insulated from his trickery and ensure that the American people remain vested in their work. As VOX reported, America is facing an epistemic crisis. What are our MOCs doing to ensure that the investigation will continue uninterrupted and that its findings will be received with the clarity and belief they deserve?
