Hawai‘i J20+ is Joining the Nationwide TAX MARCH on April 15. We are calling upon all residents of Hawai‘i to demand the release of President Trump’s tax returns and financial papers.
Donald Trump is the first American President in over four decades to refuse to provide transparency regarding his financial dealings. This creates an unprecedented and dangerous situation with many potential conflicts of interest, such as the possibility of the President and his family trading political influence for profit. His justification? “People don’t care.”
Without the release of President Trump’s tax returns, Congress has no way of knowing whether or not the President is in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution—the so-called “Emoluments Clause”—states: “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, or any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”
Democracy depends upon transparency; tyranny thrives in secrecy. This is why Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Anna Eshoo have introduced legislation that would require all sitting Presidents and candidates for President to release their tax returns.
This legislation will likely die in committee unless we show President Trump that WE DO CARE! Join us in demanding to know: what financial ties the Trump Organization maintains with foreign governments; whether or not the Trump Organization profits from illegal tax shelters; and, even whether President Trump is a rich as he claims. Join us in promoting transparency.
