TALKING POINTS :
HEALTH CARE: TrumpCare is dead. Again. This time we want to keep it that way. We will give our deepest thanks to Senators Hirono and Schatz for their strong and persistent voices on this issue. Both of them played integral roles in moving this discussion to a place where we ultimately pulled three republicans into the NO column, handing the GOP a humiliating defeat. We will let them know that we expect them to keep working on this issue, and to fight viciously against any attempts by the administration, Price, and the HHS to “implode” the ACA by withholding payments, shortening enrollment periods, etc. We live in a nation now where people are literally begging for their lives, and our White House and GOP legislators are willfully turning a blind eye to all of us. It’s unconscionable, cruel, inhumane, and not who we are as a nation.
NORTH KOREA & RUSSIA: While the White House feuds, the world is becoming increasingly unstable, with tensions with Russia at a level not seen since the Cold War, North Korea poised to flex its nuclear muscles, and China at the receiving end of 45’s cyber-bullying rants. We implore our MOCs to be the adults in the room, find channels where discussions and de-escalation can overtake this bloviating and bullying White House, and do what they’ve sworn to do - protect and defend our democracy and our people. Particularly here in Hawaii, the threat of an attack from North Korea is real and frightening. We are back to the days of nuclear drills, sirens, and preparation. This cannot be allowed to continue un-checked.
MUELLER, SESSIONS, AND THE INVESTIGATIONS: This president cannot be allowed to fire those put in place to protect and defend our constitution. We expect our MOCs to stand tall and speak loudly about this issue, making it clear that such actions simply aren’t acceptable in a democracy, and that as a nation, we will not stand for it. We also encourage our Senators to continue to push all the investigative levers and demand hard questions and full and complete answers.
